And as a company run by professional cyclists, they know exactly what we need to succeed. Whether you need an endurance drink to fuel you all day long or something to help keep you sharp for shorter more intense events, Ion has the perfect product.
They are excited to be a part of helping us have the best fuels possible at our disposal, and are offering a 10% discount on their products. As a smaller company with great offerings, I am excited to have them on board.

Happy New Year All!
Undoubtedly many of you know/have heard that Laura Van Gilder (Cresco, PA – C3-Sollay/Athletes Serving Athletes) has been nominated to the US Elite Women’s squad for the 2010 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Tabor, Czech Republic, Jan. 30-31.
What we’re sure a lot don’t know is that financing the trip to Worlds is the athlete’s responsibility. And a trip to the Czech Republic to represent your country at the absolute pinnacle of your sport is not the most ‘inexpensive’ endeavor. So, a few us, shall we say, “less gifted” athletes/cohort…OK, hacks and instigators…have cobbled together a home-grown fund raising effort to send LVG over to Tabor for round 2. Yes; round 2.
For those keeping score at home: LVG was representing the stars and stripes last season in Hoogerheide, Netherlands for a very respectable 19th place in her first Cyclocross campaign.
Now, riding as a privateer this season has put LVG in very different position, financially, and we (Bill and Ray) are doing what LVG has too much class and pride to do – asking the brotherhood and sisterhood to come through for one of our own by making a donation to her fund: http://www.BikeReg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=9848 , coming up to race/help keep her sharp at one of our pre-World Championships CX races (16 & 23 Jan, more details to come shortly…)
So please, spread the word so that we can help LVG reduce her expenses as much as possible.
Happy Holidays…and on behalf of LVG – thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Bill Elliston & Ray Ignosh

Well, as of last week it’s official: Laura Van Gilder got the nod from USA Cycling to represent the US at the 2010 Cyclocross World Championships!! This is an awesome feat for Laura who, in just her sophomore season of cross, will now be making the trip to Europe for her second Cross Worlds appearance. US Cyclocross coach Marc Gullickson was again impressed not only by her multiple UCI victories but also by her season long consistency over a variety of courses, as well as her excellent 5th place ride at US Nationals.
Worlds are slated for 31 January in Tabor, Czech Republic. As it’s a substantial trip, several “Friends of LVG” are organizing a donation site, as well as some upcoming races in January, to help offset the costs for her. Look for more information on this in the next few days as we get the ball rolling to send Laura to Tabor.

With the 2009 season in the books, many riders are already looking ahead to next season. They find themselves scanning the calendar, setting goals, and anticipating the beginning of the training cycle again. Once they get their goals and schedule established, the next question is how to train effectively to reach those goals.
One of the best ways to begin that new training phase is by having a concrete set of training zones from which to base your training program on. An LT test will help you establish your ideal training zones, via both HR and power figures. That means no more wasted time or wondering if you are in the correct zones while training. Whether you have a coach or are self-trained, a proper set of training zones determined by an LT test will enable you to ensure that you are training each zone properly, giving you the most effective results for your efforts.
In addition, a Spinscan will enable you to have an in-depth look at your pedal stroke. It will help assess and analyze your entire range of motion by isolating each leg’s power split, dead spot, and average torque angle. By knowing where any weaknesses occur, you can address the problems and make the necessary corrections to ensure that you have power and efficiency through your entire pedaling motion.
So why wait? Schedule your LT test and Spinscan now so you can start your new season armed with the knowledge to make it as successful as possible.

With the 2009 season in the books, now is a good time to look back over all the accomplishments of this past season. This year was another great year with continued success on many fronts including goals achieved, milestones reached, and great new relationships established.
All the EC clients had a great year and achieved a variety of results in their respective categories. Just a few of the notable results include:
- Several athletes making the jump to cat 1
- Personal best bike times in Tri’s
- NRC victories
- Numerous victories
- Numerous podium placings
- Top 10 finishes at National Championship events
- Multiple UCI Cyclocross victories
- State Championships
- Increased competitiveness in age group racing, both road and cross
- First time victories
- Successful intros to cross racing
- And much more…
This season also saw the addition of several great affiliate relationships. Van Dessel and Revolution Wheelworks joined long time supporter Echappe Equipment in offering clients discounts on their products. Their generous discounts on top quality equipment is just another step in helping EC clients have all the best tools at their disposal in the pursuit of their goals.
Finally, this year also saw some new service additions in the form of LT testing and Spinscan analysis. The addition of these in-house services will further enable me to provide clients with the most effective training tools to help them reach their goals.
So a big congrats goes out to all clients for their hard work and ability to see their goals come to fruition, as well as to all affiliates who’ve helped pave the way. I look forward to continued work with all and aim to make 2010 an even bigger success.

Just a reminder that with the end of the cross season fast approaching, that means that the Phillipsburg Riverfront Cyclocross is right around the corner. Set for Saturday Dec 5, the race is also slated as the NJ State Cross Championships. This years course should again prove to be fun and challenging with it’s steep run-up (maybe a ride-up for some….), tricky descent, off camber sections, and fast wide open stretches. We’ll also have a few new twists and turns in there to keep it exciting.
We also have a few new additions to add to the atmosphere. We’ll have hot food and beverages from
Wafels And Dinges. Owner Thomas DeGeest is a native Belgian and very familiar with the cyclocross scene. He brings his enthusiasm for cross and his array of great foods to every venue he works.
We’ll also feature the final
Van Dessel demo expo of the season. They will be on hand with a line of Gin and Trombones for anyone in need to rent for just $25. So anyone needing a bike for the day, a spare bike just in case, or looking for an upgrade and want to give one a try, stop by and reserve your size for your race.
*To reserve a bike, please come see us WELL before your event, or contact us ahead of time to make arrangements. Limited sizes will be available, and will be reserved on a first come first serve basis.
And as always, we’ll have one of the voices of Mid Atlantic Cross, Erik Mitchell, on hand to call the action.
Pre- registration closes Thursday Dec 3 at 12 noon, so don’t miss out. You can find all info on the event and register

As one season ends and another is just on the horizon, this transitional time of year often sees riders assessing their equipment and making potential changes. Often this comes in the form of upgrading to an all new rig as a result of team deals/discounts or simply just treating one’s self to a new rig to start the season off fresh. And along with switching to a new bike always comes the potential issue of making sure it gets set up ideally . Often times old reference measurements get lost or forgotten, making it a difficult and frustrating process.
A proper bike fit is a useful tool to riders of all abilities. It will ensure comfort and enjoyment, while maximizing your efficiency and performance. So whether you are a recreational cyclist or a professional, why leave your fit to chance? Take the time this fall to schedule an appointment to come in for a professional fit. I do a full fit including cleat position, seat height, saddle set-back, reach and front end drop. Each athlete’s goals, riding style, comfort, flexibility, and injury history is taken into account with every fitting so that the end result is a custom fit that is tailored to their specific needs.
By taking care of the fit now, any adjustments made can be slowly adapted to through the off-season before the time of big base miles and spring riding are upon us. By the time they roll around, you’ll have the peace of mind knowing you’re set into your ideal position and ready to comfortably tackle your goals.

As we’re around the midway point of the cross season just thought I’d give a brief update and reminder.
The racing so far has been full tilt nearly every weekend. Some clients have been following the UCI calendar and racking up podiums and points in nearly every venue, asserting their places at the top of the ranks. Other clients have been frequenting the regional scene and been consistently battling it out within their respective categories. And finally some of our other ‘newbie’ clients have been putting their skills to the test in as many local events as they can, and truly enjoying their new found passion for cross. All around, it has been a great cross season for clients, and should continue so as we start into the last month of racing.
As a reminder, this coming weekend, Nov 14 and 15, is the next stop of the USGP series, at Mercer County, NJ, and Elliston Coaching supporter Van Dessel will be on hand to lend to the fun. Van Dessel will be set up with a full fleet of demo bikes for anyone to test ride or rent out for the races. Whether you just want to give it a shot, or need a spare bike for the day, $25 will get you a ride on a sweet Sram equipped Gin and Trombones.
